The Three F Rule in Hiring

Updated: 2 days ago

Did you know that a staggering 87% of cleaning company employees have a felony record? One of our largest differentiators as a Janitorial service is our strict pre-employment qualifications. We cannot hire friends, family, or felons. This article explains why. . .

FRIENDS

Part of what’s fascinating in the workforce is the relationships that we build. Some of my best friends today were cultivated during business hours. However, hiring friends can come at a price. Things like conflict of interest and favoritism come into play, or constant fraternizing, joking, or even negative influence. These vary things can drop the productiveness of a team rapidly. What’s worse, in the event of termination, a co-worker friend will often side with their buddy over an unbiased, well-documented, managerial decision. Managers don’t have the luxury of friendship in the workplace. We are there to serve the customer. Sometimes that means changing the employee if we can’t change the behavior. When you lead a team, you lose the privilege of getting what you want.

FAMILY

Part of maintaining a professional business is keeping a pre-made decision to never hire family. A major conflict of interest brews if you allow kin into your employee structure. These structures tend to work fine with mom-and-pop shops and dad and son businesses, but I wanted to create something less personal and more professional, unbiased, and zero conflict of interest.

Business doesn’t care who your brother is and neither should the customer. Our mission is to produce results, not excuses. By never hiring a family member, I saved myself the heartache of ever firing a loved one. As an added bonus, we tend to see enough of our family without having to work alongside them.

FELONS

We do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. We are not compelled to hire those with criminal convictions. There are many great men and women out there with a felony background, but unfortunately due to the nature of the industry, we cannot take any chances.

Our employees often work after hours with full access to a client’s business. The client must rest assured that our cleaning professionals have been properly vetted. We practice due diligence in the selection process, and therefore we simply do not offer employment to those with certain criminal convictions or other documented transgressions.
